LESSON PLAN FOR INTERPRETIVE AND PRESENTATIONAL COMMUNICATION (DIGITALLY-MEDIATED TEXT)

Theme: Food

Topic: Family time and food.

Introduction

This digitally-mediated text lesson is designed to nurture students’ multimodal literacies. It involves students’ production of a 3-5 minutes long digital video where “the creator” narrates a deeply personal story about their family eating rituals and how food brings them together with the help of a video or a series of still pictures with a voice-over.

Lesson learning objectives

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

Linguistic

• use all the vocabulary and grammar knowledge they have acquired all through the week.

• practise asking questions using both est-ce que and the inversion.

Cognitive

• develop skills to interpret digitally mediated text.

• identify and establish links between a character and person in a given text, and the communicative context, and sociocultural context.

Sociocultural

• learn different levels of formality in France

• draw comparisons between the blog’s author and themselves by relating similar experiences in a text chart.

Lesson learning goals

Students will be able to:

Linguistic

• Students will be able to know the appropriate language use depending on genre and setting.

• Students will be exposed to vocabulary related to the food-making process and family rituals.

Cognitive

• Students will be able to develop abilities in critical and functional analysis of texts by comparing written and visual genres of texts.

• Students will develop skills that enable them to create meaning from authentic texts.

Sociocultural

• Students will be able to draw comparisons between their culture and the culture of the target language. They will also be able to understand the influence of culture on the use of language.
